Jackson County offers a wide variety of community services to its residents.
Library
The Jackson County Public Library offers residents not only a modern, comprehensive written library, but a video and audio library as well. The library has a fully-equipped, modern computer lab. Two of the computer stations are offered to the public for their use. They are used on a daily basis by adults and children as well. The library also offers the public use of their fax machine and internet services.
Financial Institutions
- The Jackson County Bank can meet all of your banking needs at one of their three locations within the county. They offer a full range of services including checking and savings accounts, bonds, CDs, and loans. Service with a smile is what you will get when banking at Jackson County Bank.

Citizens Bank located in McKee offers competitive interest rates on loans to residents of Jackson County. Their friendly and courteous manner will make your banking experience a good one.
- Central Appalachian Peoples Federal Credit Union opened an office in July 1996. Anyone who lives, works, or worships in Jackson County is eligible to join the credit union.
Restaurants
If you have never eaten a good 'ole country meal, you are in for a treat! Many of our restaurants are family owned and operated. If you only have time for something fast, then you can also enjoy the convenience of a fast-food restaurant. Wherever you eat, you'll be pleased with the quality of service you receive.
Shopping
Many of our people are skilled craftspeople who show their work out of their homes or adjacent buildings. There is a variety of homemade crafts, furniture, etc. that you can either buy or just look at --- either way, you spend an enjoyable day.
There are two major grocery stores in the county and many small specialty or convenient stores. In addition, in the summer you will find a fresh fruit and vegetable stand on almost every corner. The smells are carried about with the summer breezes creating a most delicious atmosphere.
There are several general merchandise stores in the county. For your more specialized stores, the Richmond Mall is only 35 miles away! We also have hardware stores, farm stores, building supply stores, etc. All of which provide quality service at prices that you can afford.
Churches
Our
churches play a vital role in the lives of our people and our community.
Churches in Jackson County include:

Newspapers
The Jackson County Sun and The Jackson County Times are our local paper. They
are staffed by residents of Jackson County and is published weekly. In addition, larger newspaper service is available from the Lexington Herald Leader which is published on a daily basis.
There are numerous other facilities and services within the county. The spirit of brotherhood is contagious because we realize that only by working in unison can we successfully attain our goals.
